About Sento Guide

A sento is a Japanese public bath. Many foreigners want to experience public bathing while in Japan, but have trouble locating the baths. By being the number one English language resource for information about public baths in Japan, Sento Guide aims to make sento more accessible for foreigners in Japan.

By no means do we provide a list of every single bath in the country, but we do strive — with the help of our users — to constantly add new places.

There are two types of public baths in Japan: onsen and sento. Onsen are fed by a natural hot spring, while sento use regular water and heat it. Because of this, onsen are usually more resort style places, while sento can be found in the local neighbourhood. Sento Guide used to focus on sento, but lately we have been adding more and more onsen.
