A sento is a Japanese public bath. Many foreigners want to experience public bathing while in Japan, but have trouble locating these public baths. SentoGuide aims to provide foreigners in Japan with reasonably comprehensive listing of public baths in Japan. By no means do we provide a listing of every single public bathing facility in the country, but we do strive to constantly add new listings when we or you discover a previously unlisted bath.
There are two types of public baths in Japan, onsen and sento. Onsen are fed by a natural hot spring, while sento use regular water and heat it. Because of this, onsen are usually more resort style places, while sento can be find in the local neighbourhood. This means that other websites already provide great listings of onsen with reviews of all facilities. Therefore SentoGuide mainly focuses on the smaller public baths located in your local neighbourhood, as well as some larger chains of sento.
